James R. (Jim) Craven
James R. (Jim) Craven was Executive Director of the Municipal Finance Authority of BC (MFA) for 16 years from 1984 to 2000. Jim also served as mentor to the Local Government Management Association’s (LGMA) Municipal Administrative Training Institute – Foundations (MATI I) for seven years between 1985 and 2001.
In recognition of Jim’s contribution to the MFA, MATI I and to local government in British Columbia, the MFA established the James R Craven Fund in 2000. The fund provided travel assistance to those attending the MATI I Program from across the province. Since inception, the MFA has contributed approximately $180,000 to the program. The program continues today in the form of MFA's annual sponsorship of LGMA programming and current and future MATI I offerings.
Len Traboulay
Len Traboulay was the Chair of MFA from 1997 to 2000. Chair Traboulay was an avid supporter of education, being an educator himself and served as the President of the Burnaby Teachers Association. As a teacher, he made an incredible impact on his many students. His teaching offered them more than simply lessons in French; they often left his class with lessons in life as well.
Since the inception of the Len Traboulay Education Fund (LTEF) in 2001, the MFA has contributed over $440,000 by funding 39 different programs through educational or government institutions; Capilano University, University of Victoria, Thompson Rivers University, Vancouver Island University, Royal Roads University, University of Northern BC, Northwest Community College, Government Finance Officers Association of BC and the Local Government Leadership Academy.
